| In 1996 the government created HIPAA (Health insurance Portability
and Accountability Act), which provides protection of patient
health information through electronic transfers, privacy and
security.
As our agency make plans for HIPAA implementation we
must ensure our software supports the exchange of information
through mechanism which are safe and secure to meet the requirements
of the transactions and code sets of the HIPAA regulations.
In becoming HIPAA compliant our agency must test software provided
by vendors to ensure the data transmitted is accurate and does
not compromise the integrity and the obligation to abide by
federal
requirements.
HIPAA applies to all health care providers, health
plans, clearinghouses, vendors, subcontractors and all entities,
which have access to, protected health information including
Valeo Behavioral Health Care and Valeo Community Residence
Program.
