Topeka Community
Topeka was chosen as the State Capital when Kansas was admitted to the union in 1861. The city originated as a hub for commerce along the Oregon Trail with access to The Kansas River, and the Santa Fe Railroad. Today it prospers as an attractive place to do business, and is headquarters to national and international corporations. The amenities and relatively low cost of living make Topeka an appealing location for many families to live. Topeka is small enough to experience Midwest hospitality, yet large enough to support the arts and offer advanced education opportunities. The population is around 125,000. There is a strong community spirit. We are within short driving distance to the larger cities of Kansas City and Wichita. We are an ideal transitional community easily accessible from the Kansas City International Airport. Topeka has an active National Depression and Bi-Polar Alliance, and an active chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. There are many highly qualified psychiatric doctors and clinicians in our community.
