History

The Valeo Community Residence Program provides discrete residential and transitional care to adults with mental illness who require a supportive living environment. Residents participate and receive assistance with daily living needs, personal, social, and interpersonal goals. Additional comprehensive mental health services such as Psychotherapy, Medication Management, Supported Employment, and Supported Education are available through our affiliate, Valeo Behavioral Health Care.

Valeo Community Residence Program (CRP) is a private, non-profit corporation that has been in the Topeka community for 20+ years. It was originally conceptualized and implemented by The Menninger Clinic in the spring of 1987. Valeo acquired the program in July 2001 when Menninger relocated to Houston, Texas. Valeo continues the tradition of providing exceptional state-of-the-art services to meet complex needs. The Community Residence Program includes two upscale homes located in safe residential neighborhoods in Topeka, Kansas: Sharp House and Frazier House.

For individuals with more fully developed independent living skills, the Valeo CRP Annexing Program is an option. Annexers live independently in the community and do not reside in our homes. Annex residents utilize a CRP house and staff for extra support and problem-solving consultations. Depending on their individual treatment plan, annexers may participate in groups and other CRP communal activities.

The length of stay is based on the goals and needs of the individual resident. We have found that our services have not been optimally utilized with stays of less than one month. CRP has people that have been in the program as residents for years, and some who have been discharged after just two months.

Our Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) treatment approach was developed in conjunction with The Beck Institute, and implemented at Valeo Community Residence Program in 2005. The Cognitive Behavioral Therapy model incorporates teaching methods that challenge residents to reassess their functional abilities. Helping to overcome, or at least question, self-imposed barriers to realizing their potential for independence.

We encourage our residents and annexers to use the clinical providers of their choice. Our affiliate, Valeo Behavioral Health Care has a staff of excellent and highly qualified clinicians. There are many quality providers outside of Valeo's services as well.

Valeo Community Residence Program is licensed by the State of Kansas Social and Rehabilitation Services. The program is inspected annually for license renewal.
